On the old, well-travelled tourist route between Sunnmøre and the upper reaches of the Nordfjord lies Hornindal, one of the 26 municipalities in the county of Sogn og Fjordane. Adjacent municipalities are Stryn and Eid, both on the Nordfjord, and Ørsta, Stranda and Volda to the north in Møre og Romsdal county. The population of Hornindal is approximately 1,200.
Grodås, the main village in Hornindal, is on the Rv. 60 at the east end of the Hornindalsvatn (Hornindal Water), the deepest lake (514 m) in Europe. Hornindal is ideal as a base for excursions around the district to such attractions as the Briksdal Glacier, Jostedalsbreen nasjonalparksenter Stryn (National Park Centre – Jostedalsbreen Glacier), the Geiranger Fjord, Norangsdalen Valley, Vestkapp (the West Cape) and the Stryn Mountains.
